Source Salba In Canada
Since 2006, Salba Smart founders, Rally and Rich Ralston, have made it their mission to bring great-tasting, nutritionally dense food products to strengthen your diet with essential nutrients—to power whatever it is that you love to do.
Because we care as much about the planet as we do about people, we are committed to transparency in our business and growing practices. That’s why all Salba Chia products are grown using organic practices and are Non-GMO Project Verified—all from the lush soil and temperate climate of South America.
Salba is more than just a name. It literally defines the only two registered varieties of chia in the world—Sahi Alba 911 and Sahi Alba 912—for their consistent size, shape and off-the-charts nutritional quality. Any other chia seeds on the shelf are considered a wild crop, where the nutrition, and even species, can vary depending on the region they are grown.
Only Salba Chia has gone through both selective and separate breeding to show a pure, distinctive, uniform, stable variety. It’s a better way for a better chia. Sprinkle per sprinkle, Salba Chia has more omega-3s and protein than the next common chia seed, giving you the endurance to go out and do what you love to do, again and again.
Behind every Salba Chia seed that leaves our fields is a commitment to quality and our pursuit of the purest, most powerful chia seeds on the planet.
What are chia seeds?
Chia seeds have been consumed by humans for thousands of years, originating from Central America as a staple in the Aztec diet, dating as far back as 3500 BC.
To illustrate this seed's significance, chia actually means "strength" in Mayan, due to its nutritious profile and ability to increase energy and stamina.
Though small, these tiny seeds provide powerful nutrition and medicinal properties including protein, fats, fiber, magnesium, calcium, copper and zinc.
Did you know that 3 tbsps of chia seeds provide more calcium than a glass of milk? This is a great natural source of calcium for those who don't tolerate dairy or follow a vegan diet. Calcium is essential for building strong bones but also phosphorus, magnesium, and protein - all of which are plentiful in chia seeds.
Chia seeds are made up of 19% protein but they also supply all 9 essential amino acids, providing 4 grams of protein per 2 tablespoons. Vegan sources of protein typically don't include all amino acids needed by the body however chia is one of the exceptions!
Chia seeds are one of the richest sources in omega 3 fatty acids, the essential fats we must obtain from our diet. These omega 3 fats are naturally anti-inflammatory and beneficial for heart health, cognitive function, blood sugar balance, hormonal balance, and joint health.
The antioxidants found in chia seeds also have an anti-inflammatory effect and can help to quench free radicals - which contribute to accelerated aging (1). Antioxidants can also help to protect the fats found in chia seeds and prevent them from going bad.
The type of fiber found mainly in chia is known as insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber makes the chia seeds expand in water which turns the seeds into a gel that increases in volume by up to 10 times!
Insoluble fiber moves through your digestive system intact and can help to soften stool making it easier to pass, promoting regularity and reducing constipation.
Due to their extensive nutritional profile they may help to improve weight management, blood sugar control, digestive health, cardiovascular health, and increased satiety.
