What is saw palmetto?
Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a low, shrubby fan palm native to the sandy coastal lands of the southeastern United States, especially Florida. It gets its name from the saw-toothed stalks of its leaves. The palm bears dark, olive-sized berries that ripen in late summer, and these are the part used in herbal products. The fruit is naturally oily, which is why extracts are graded by their fatty acid content.
