How an oral rehydration solution differs from a sports drink
An oral rehydration solution is a measured balance of sodium, potassium, chloride, citrate and glucose, made up at a set concentration. The glucose is there for a reason: it helps the gut take up sodium and water together. That is why the directions ask you to dissolve the whole packet in exactly 250 ml of water. A regular electrolyte drink is made for everyday hydration. Replenish is made for the times when you are losing fluids fast.
What's in each sachet
The medicinal ingredients are sodium (from sodium chloride and trisodium citrate), potassium (from potassium chloride), chloride, citrate and glucose. Berry Blast is flavoured with natural berry flavour and blueberry juice powder, sweetened with stevia leaf extract, with citric acid, silica and carrot juice making up the rest.
How to take it
Adults dissolve the entire sachet in 250 ml of drinking water and shake well. Take 200 ml 1 to 2 times per episode of diarrhea and/or vomiting, up to a maximum of 1 litre in 24 hours. Start as soon as diarrhea begins, and sip it often in small amounts, increasing as tolerated. Keep any mixed solution in the fridge and discard it after 24 hours. If drinking water is not available, use boiled or bottled water, and do not boil the solution once it is made. The full cautions are under How to Take.

How to Take
Recommended dose:
(Oral) Adults only: Dissolve (entire content of packet) in 250 mL of drinking water (to achieve appropriate concentration of medicinal ingredients). Stir/shake the solution before taking/giving. Take/give 200 mL 1 to 2 times per episode of diarrhea and/or vomiting, up to a maximum of 1000 mL (1 L) over a period of 24 hours. Attempt to take/give solution as soon as diarrhea begins. Take/give the solution frequently and in small amounts (e.g. 5 mL, gradually increased, as tolerated). Store reconstituted/opened solution in the refrigerator, discard remaining solution after 24 hours. If drinking water is not available, use boiled or bottled water to prepare the solution. Do not boil the solution after it is prepared.
Cautions:
Consult a health care professional before use if fluid and electrolyte intake must be limited or if there is the presence of gastrointestinal obstruction, cardiovascular or kidney disease. Consult a health care professional if vomiting or diarrhea worsens or continues beyond 24 hours; if signs of dehydration occur such as changes in mental status, irritability, lack of interest or inactivity, reduced urine output, dry mouth, increased heart and/or breathing rate, decreased tears and/or sunken eyes; if signs of electrolyte imbalance occur (such as disproportionate thirst, muscle weakness, or swelling of the hands, face and/or feet); or if feces contain blood or mucus or if diarrhea is accompanied by a high fever, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or persistent vomiting; if vomit is green or contains blood, is accompanied by severe abdominal pain or a high fever, or if a bowel obstruction is suspected. Consult a health care practitioner prior to administering to infants (up to 1 year). Not to be used following or during vigorous exercise.
