Formally known as Mucuna pruriens, and also referred to as velvet bean, kuanch, or cowhage, Mucuna is a tropical vine that produces pods containing numerous seeds. These precious seeds are an excellent source of the amino acid levodopa (L-dopa), which also functions as the precursor to the neurotransmitter dopamine in our brains. Low dopamine levels can affect your mood, alertness, sleep, memory, as well as sexual and muscle functions. Therefore, by consuming foods that are high in L-dopa, such as Mucuna / Kapikacchu powder, you may be able to enhance your body's natural dopamine production.
In Ayurvedic medicine, Kapikacchu is traditionally used to support the brain and nervous system, and as a means of helping the body cope with stress. It has rich antioxidant benefits, and is also used in Ayurveda as nutritional support for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Further, some have found velvet bean to be helpful in matters of sexual health, using it as an aphrodisiac for increasing libido (in both men and women), sexual function, and sperm count.
Kapikacchu is also sometimes spelled as 'Kapikachhu'. Latest packaging may look slightly different than shown.
