Cultures for Health top products
Brew delicious, organic kombucha at home and save money! Commercial kombucha sells for $3+ per bottle. Using our kombucha starter culture you can brew your own kombucha for $2 per gallon. When combined with sweetened tea and fermented, the resulting kombucha beverage has a tart zing that can be flavored in a variety of ways.
But what is kombucha exactly? Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage rich in probiotics that have been consumed for hundreds of years. The fermentation process creates carbonation which gives it a soda-like consistency. Though studies are lacking, kombucha may benefit gut health by providing a source of beneficial bacteria. These probiotic bacteria can help boost immune function, promote bowel regularity and reduce systemic inflammation.
Kombucha is a great alternative to alcohol or soda for those wanting to support their health but still enjoy a satisfying drink!
This starter pack contains 1 reusable kombucha starter culture with 25 pH strips.
Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread
One of our favourite sourdough starter cultures, Whole Wheat Sourdough Starter is a Flemish-style starter made with organic whole wheat flour. It makes delicious whole grain bread that is easier to digest due to the reduced anti-nutrient content which can cause digestive upset and decrease absorption. Through the process of fermentation and the addition of live active cultures, sourdough can also support and improve gut health. If you are sensitive or intolerant to gluten try Cultures for Health Gluten-Free Sourdough bread starter pack.
Water Kefir Grains
Water kefir grains (WKG) create a carbonated lacto-fermented beverage from sugar water, fruit juice, or coconut water.
Kefir is traditionally made from dairy milk but can be made from non-dairy sources as mentioned above. Known as a more potent source of beneficial microorganisms than yogurt, kefir can provide a wide variety of probiotic strains to benefit health. Dairy kefir is rich in vitamin B12, calcium, magnesium, vitamin K2, biotin, and folate.
Incredibly easy to make, water kefir makes a fantastic non-dairy alternative to milk kefir and can be flavored to make a range of delicious beverages, or as an ingredient in many recipes! If you can tolerate dairy you can also try Milk Kefir Grains instead.
Greek Yogurt Starter
A popular crowd-pleaser, Greek yogurt can provide a great source of protein and also help to feed your gut with probiotics.
A good quality Greek yogurt (without the added sugars and additives) is nutrient-dense and creamier than most other yogurts. Making it yourself is a great way to ensure you are in control of the ingredients. Greek yogurt can provide significant levels of calcium, B12, and potassium.
Deliciously rich and tangy, this heirloom, thermophilic starter can be re-cultured indefinitely. Drain whey from the finished product to make thick Greek yogurt or enjoy as-is. Suitable for use with pasteurized whole milk and with raw dairy milk or non-dairy milk, with special care. Always choose organic and grass-fed dairy products. Each box contains 2 packets of yogurt starter culture.
