Keto Diet In Canada
The keto diet is trending these days as a way to minimize blood sugar fluctuations and lose weight fairly quickly.
The ketogenic diet was created in the 1920s to treat cases of epilepsy in children. Though very restrictive, the keto diet has shown to exert benefits such as improved diabetes, weight loss, energy, cravings, epilepsy, cancer, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer cases.
It focuses on consuming 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbohydrates. This allows the body to reach a state of ketosis, which means the body is burning fat for energy instead of sugar. Through this process, your liver creates ketones from dietary fat or body fat which can be used as fuel for the body and organs, such as the brain. This is called ketosis and occurs usually within 3 to 4 days of restricting carbohydrates to 20 to 50 grams at most.
Keto approved foods include non-starchy vegetables, meat, poultry, oils, fish, seafood, eggs, dairy, nuts, and low glycemic fruits such as berries.
